Leopard is the new Vista
Every time I write about the evil empire (Microsoft), I get smug retorts from all the Macheads and open source enthusiasts out there who claim to be immune from software and operating system woes because they chose to abandon MS and Windows as their work or play PC. Well, this little rant from PC Magazine's Oliver Rist roasts Apple's new operating system (called Leopard) and equates it to the well-deserved rap that Microsoft is getting for its new Vista operating system.
When I first switched to Vista, I was forced into the marriage because in quick succession my desktop computer, and then my laptop just plain crashed. Rather than pick the last few Windows XP operating systems on the retail shelf, I took the chance and grabbed replacement hardware that used Vista. This started a toboggan ride that led me into the new MS Office 2007 jungle where all the user interface was mysteriously changed for no apparent reason, and my travel hiccups were exacerbated by the inability to plug my laptop into a Kinko's (or most any hotel business center) workstation to print files and check email because they didn't (and still don't) support Vista in their networks.
I admit to a few advantages (better wireless access on the road, for instance), and I am now getting used to both Vista and Office 2007. But getting here has been a bumpy ride.
So now I can expect only smug open source "I told you so" comments to this post instead of the double teaming I get from them and the Apple-ists.
So is Leopard as bad as they say? Don't ask me ... I've got enough troubles.
