I like how in the video DTF was doing all the arrests and the spokesman for APD was blaming everyone around them for the problem.

Hey Sandi,
Thanks for the post. I watched it with mixed feelings. I am fairly new to the area (5 years) and looked up Eureka CA on wikipedia and thought that gave a much more thourough and balanced history and description of the area.

The video was a waste of time propaganda video. The negativity and public outcry about marijuana in "real life" Humboldt County is overpowered by the public support. Which wasnt fully POTrayed on the show in a positive way.
The extreme casses of marijuana grow abuse in Humboldt County can be bad. Abuse & breaking the law by growing more than is legally allowed is a crime. They go to jail & are sued in court for damages. The people who have 215 & grow the legal ammount, and stay within the 215 guidelines do not go to jail when any cop/task/ect. comes to thier home. If someone opposed to marijuana smells it coming from your home, and they call the police, the police come and check the grow. Which in my opinion is more than adaquate regulations.
Property damage Usually results in someone being sued for property damages, not the "we can do nothing" sediment in the videos. The videos positivly showed no positivity of legal 215 grows & dispensaries, besides the it makes my illness feel better. Making the weak seem weaker. What about the tax revenue the non profit dispensaries here in arcata generate? Directly helping the police department & every other state department.
The real rental problem in arcata is a result of the college students at H.S.U. and no afforable housing or apartments. Resulting in landlords renting a 5 bedroom home to 5 college students for $2500. A choice situation for the student & landlord. A life long resident like myself coudnt afford $2500, but some here can, and to automaticlly think only a grower could pay $2500 is closed minded. The rental price also reflects how much were paying in property taxes and how much the home is worth.
These kind of videos give our small town a bad reputation.

I watched the "Pot City USA" documentary last night on A&E. I couldn't believe the damages that the growers would do to the homes they would rent. I am studying to become an electrician and the one thing that I wondered most was how does all of this work go into a house without someone realizing the construction is being done and why do they not call the city/county to stop them from literally destroying these homes. When anyone does work to a house, especially that much work being done, a permit is necessary to be pulled and the construction cannot be completed without an inspection (this alone would solve the troubles with fires). Furthermore a commercial grow should never be done in a residential area, for the same reason nothing else that is "commercial" is being done in residential areas. I agree with the locals who lived there for years/decades and are complaining about the crime, smells, fires, and just all around danger. What I believe should be the answer is to literally commercialize the grows so they are allowed to rent out a large commercial office space/warehouse and then they can use a higher voltage to power there lamps and other equipment (which in turn will not use as much energy) plus they shall then hire a licensed electrician, plumber, and mechanical contractor to install the work it takes to undergo a commercial grow in a proper fashion (which will in turn stimulate the economy). I also believe that in order to undergo a commercial grow just like with any other profession the person should have to take classes and get a certification so he/she understands what they are doing and how they should do it in order to obey by the state law. Then the law can limit the amount of plants allowed by the resident of the county and then separately regulate the commercial growers (ex. 15 plants residential/100 plans commercial). Then if someone gets caught with commercial grows in a residential area, take there assets and fine them. These commercial grows in residential areas are going to ruin what has finally gotten some grounds, marijuana reform.
