Gunny hates spidahs. He proclaims this whenever we walk by one or his hand touches the remnants of a web in a window sill. I think they're pretty cool and I was able to capture this one on our front porch:

How the heck did you get a picture of the web? I tried about 100 different settings on my camera on two different webs and still you couldnt see squat! I admit, I dont really know what the settings are that I used, but I tried my little heart out HA! I dont like spiders either but their work is amazing. Also, I love Halloween!!!

Backlight! I waited until the sun was right behind it and then I had my camera focus in on the web rather than the trees behind it. You'll need to set your ISO to 100-200 ('cuz of the light) and your Ap will probably be in the teens. I shoot in P so the camera automatically selects my shutter speed and I set the Ap. I'm sure this is clear as mud :-).
