When something smells ...

I'm not saying Gunderson did it — give the accused the right defend themselves, right? — but something has been stinky about law enforcement in Blue Lake for years.

A couple of years ago, I attended a City Council meeting where scores crowded into the old store there in Blue Lake to decry the Police Department and Chief Dave Gunderson. Consider me naive, but that doesn't happen in my opinion unless there's a reason.

We here at the newspaper have received numerous tips alleging all sorts of things, and the latest flap just seems to make the point that stink follows poop.

Did anyone else notice how Judge Miles allowed the alleged rapist's attorney to "speak for" the wife / alleged victim, instead of having her speak for herself (and under oath).

"Miles said she would take Clanton's word for the intent of Gundersen's wife's statement..." (T-S)

So the judge is taking the defense attorney's word as to what the statement of the victim would have been if she had made a statement?

Weird.

And the anti-Gallegos people are worried that the Gunderson is being persecuted and treated unfairly? Seems more like Gunderson's being coddled by the court.

Also, his bail remains at $500,000, whereas the guidelines call for aboout $750,000? Again, that hardly sounds like he's being singled out for harsh treatment either...

A famous saying goes "I don't care what the newspapers say about me as long as they spell my name right".

It is Gundersen, not Gunderson.
