Where the God is ...

This map says Humboldt County, and most of the west, is predominantly Catholic. I don't buy it. That being the case, the fact that much of the Southeast is dominated by Southern Baptists rings a bit truer.
I was raised in the Southern Baptist household, and heard the whole fire-and-brimstone spiel. Perhaps that's why I would now most closely identify with Buddhists over the Jesuits. Something about being burned alive for all eternity turned me off to Christianity.

What's up with that one county in Texas? The only heathen enclave in the U.S.? Or maybe that's hell.

Actually, given the amount of immigration in California and the Southwest, I would reckon that the Catholic designation is accurate.

But in Humboldt County even? I have a hard time believing that, but maybe you're right.

As a 7th day adventist I recognize the catholic church as the false christian church. It's purpose is to distract people from seeking God by treating them like sheep that are easily led to slaughter. Bush (state of the Union address)wants to put money into the hands of parochial schools to increase the numbers of those who learn to be led by the most powerful church in the world instead of strengthening public schools that do not encourage religion but teach people to think for themselves. Watch what happens, in a few years we'll see Catholic power gain in this country.

Interesting that just over the border in Oregon, Curry County, has more Mormons than anything else. James, what's the source of this map? I wonder how they came up with these numbers - the 2000 census? I don't remember putting "Jewitch" on my census form!
